Weekly one-on-one sessions

Most of my career has been spent with students who were not passing. I ran ESL programs on three campuses, trained other teachers, and taught classes full of students who had been told they were behind. Since 2020 I've worked mostly online with students who have learning differences.
A lot of what works for multilingual students also works for kids with ADHD. Both do better when they get to talk an idea through out loud before anyone asks them to write it down. That overlap shapes every session I teach.
I also have an MFA in Screenwriting. Three years of learning to find the story inside someone's raw material turns out to be exactly what a stuck essay needs.

Can you help a student who is failing English or the state reading test?
Yes. Most of Ted's teaching career has been with students who were not passing, including the reading and constructed-response writing on the Texas state test. This is usually semester-long work. Building the underlying reading and writing skills is what moves scores, so Conway Learning does not offer last-minute cram sessions.
Does Conway Learning offer tutoring for students with ADHD?
Yes. Ted works with students with ADHD who can engage in structured one-on-one sessions. He uses clear, step-by-step support and builds executive-function coaching into English instruction. Conway Learning is not a behavioral or therapeutic service.
How do you adapt sessions for students who get distracted or overwhelmed?
Sessions are structured and predictable. Ted breaks tasks into smaller steps, builds in short breaks, and adjusts pacing in real time based on how the student is doing that day. The goal is steady, low-pressure progress.
Does Conway Learning work with multilingual or ESL students?
Yes. Ted has run ESL programs and is certified in ESL in Texas. He supports academic English, vocabulary, grammar, writing, and reading comprehension for students whose first language is not English.
What subjects does Conway Learning tutor?
English. That covers essay writing, reading comprehension, grammar and sentence structure, vocabulary, college application essays, and the reading and writing sections of standardized tests. Conway Learning does not tutor math, science or history, though Ted does help students with ADHD organize their work in other classes and helps multilingual students understand material taught in English.
